What is The BASE Foundation?

The BASE Foundation stands for Brighton Area Schools Educational Foundation, and also symbolizes Building, Advocating, Supporting and Encouraging effective asset building in our community's youth.

Established in 1985 as a tax-exempt, charitable organization, BASE is funded through individual and business contributions and is managed by a Board of Trustees who serves without pay. One of the most important responsibilities we share as a community is to raise and nurture kind, giving, compassionate educated and responsible youth.

This has been the goal of the the BASE Foundation for over 20 years. Although independent of the Brighton Area Schools System, the BASE Foundation awards educational grants, sponsorships, and scholarships to students, teachers and service organizations that benefit the Brighton Community.

The BASE Foundation has adopted The Developmental Assets® created by the Search Institute as its guide in determining scholarship and grant eligibility. These Developmental Assets® have become the most widely used approach to positive youth development in the United States.

Our Mission
The BASE Foundation advocates for and supports both youth asset development and parenting skill building by funding vital programs and projects that benefit youth and/or parents in our Brighton Community.

These programs are critical to the development of youth and parents in our community. Over the last few years. the BASE Foundation has awarded over $20,000 in grants and scholarships for these purposes.
Programs we fund include

  • Bully Prevention Programs at the Elementary, Middle and High Schools
  • Study Skills for Parents and Students
  • ACT Prep Workshop
  • The Teen Brain
  • Diversity Day
  • Nurturing Parenting Workshops
  • Parent Education for Prevention (PEP) Talks (An ongoing drug-and-alcohol Awareness program)
  • Continuing Educational Scholarships for High School Seniors
  • Preschool and Elementary Parenting Newsletters
  • Bucket Filler Program
  • Celebration of Music
  • Senior All Night Party
  • BASE Rocks for Youth (Hard Lessons Concert)
  • Great Conversations (First Presbyterian Church of Brighton)
  • Cyber Awareness Presentation by the Michigan Attorney General Office

If you have or know a Brighton student they have most likely been exposed to a program funded by The BASE Foundation. We estimate that we have touched the lives of over 2,000 Brighton Community Youth and Parents over the last three years.
